My 9th birthday celebrations continued the tradition of starting with an early party, so that my 3rd grade classmates and playground pals could come and not be away on summer vacations.  This year we threw the Birthday Bash on the Pier 2 Turf Field in Brooklyn Bridge Park.  We played soccer and "every man for himself whoever scores is goalie" while parents and siblings had bagels and coffee or soft drinks in the shade, or frolicked in the adjacent playground.  Then we had cake, followed by a fantastic game of "kids versus parents."
